Asheville, NC folk rock quarter River Whyless will release Monoflora, their fourth full-length album and first without an outside producer since their 2012 debut, this Friday (4/8). It continues down the more layered, ambitious path of its 2018 predecessor Kindness, A Rebel, but with a more earthy, organic feel, putting a greater emphasis on warm acoustic guitars and lush violin after getting a little more electric on the last LP. There's a hint of psychedelia in there too, and with three members who sing, Monoflora is filled with gorgeous harmonies that really drive these songs home. Fans of anything from CSNY to newer groups like Bonny Light Horseman and Fleet Foxes, don't miss out on this one. A full stream premieres via the YouTube playlist below.
"Our new album, Monoflora, is at last ready for consumption," the band tells us. "It is spring, literally and metaphorically: the cherry trees and dogwoods are blooming and music is a thing we again share with you in communion. Recorded and produced by us right here in Asheville, Monoflora is handmade, through and through, and we’re pleased and eager for its release into the wider world. Come see us on tour."
