It was a huge loss when Bush Tetras drummer Dee Pop died suddenly last year. Founding members Cynthia Sley and Pat Place, along with bassist R.B. Korbet, decided to keep going, and have now announced that Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley has joined the band.
“We knew it would be impossible to replace Dee in many ways, but having Steve join us has been both comforting and invigorating," says Cynthia. "He just fit in seamlessly, like a missing puzzle piece. We can now see a future for the Bush Tetras.”
With the news, Bush Tetras have announced their first shows with Steve. They'll play Elsewhere Rooftop on June 1, and Kingston, NY's Tubby's on July 23. “It’s been nothing but fun playing with Steve and we are really excited about our first official shows with him," says Pat.
They'll also play Portland's Lose Your Mind Festival on September 2, which also has Jerry Paper, Art D'Ecco, Holy Wave and more on the lineup. All dates are listed below.
Bush Tetras have also made a new video for their classic song "Snakes Crawl," that was directed by Austin Julian-Sley (SUNK HEAVEN). Watch that below. "Snakes Craw" can be found on Bush Tetras' Rhythm & Paranoia retrospective, that made our Indie Basement Best Reissues & Box Sets of 2021 list.
