Sweet Gloom is a new punk band with some familiar faces: Get Married's Jaake Margo, Tiny Stills' Chris Clark, and DeTour's Morris Carrillo. They came together in 2021, after "DMing about the pandemic blues," and ended up making a full-length album with former Death By Stereo member Paul Miner (who's also worked as a producer/engineer for Thrice, New Found Glory, and more), which the band is hoping to release this year. Meanwhile, we're premiering lead single "2015 Kia Optima" and its video. It's a catchy, no-frills, indie-punk ripper that fans of anything from classic Lookout!/Asian Man Records to newer stuff like Joyce Manor and PUP should definitely check out. About the song and video, the band says:
The song explores one bad night in which the narrator’s car burst into flames on the way to a romantic partner’s apartment. Based on a real life experience by drummer Morris Carrillo, the video features actual footage of his car ablaze on the 101 in Boyle heights, Los Angeles.
The music video was filmed by Tyler Furtado (producer on Shameless/Chris’ college roommate) and sees the band playing the song, as well trying to make it to their destination before the car they’re driving in meets a similar fiery fate.
