So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we'd call "indie," and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here's a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NERVUS - "DROP OUT"
UK punks Nervus have announced a new album, The Evil One, due June 24 via Get Better Records, and lead single "Drop Out" is a grungy, catchy punk song that feels like a trip back to the mid '90s.

TOMBERLIN - "SUNSTRUCK"
Tomberlin's anticipated new album i don't know who needs to hear this... is "sunstruck," a ruminative folk song. "This is an aerial view love song that is also not a love song," Tomberlin says. "It is more a love song to forced distance, time alone with yourself, letting go, searching for yourself and the healing that takes place when you make those things an active focus in your life. These things are choices, they don’t just happen on their own. You can choose to practice them or you can choose stagnancy. This is a love song to the growth that often can take place if you choose to tend to your own life’s garden.”

BIG JADE - "EAT" (ft. Z-RO)
Rising Texas rapper Big Jade is back with a new single, "Eat," which finds her sounding equal parts hard and introspective with help from hometown veteran Z-Ro.

SUMERLANDS - "HEAVENS ABOVE" / "I'M SO AFRAID" (FLEETWOOD MAC COVER)
Retro metallers Sumerlands are back with a new single, "Heavens Above," as well as a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "I'm So Afraid," the latest in a line of metal Fleetwood Mac covers.

METRONOMY - "RIGHT ON TIME" REMIXES (TUNE YARDS, MORE)
One of the highlights of Metronomy's new album Small World is the effervescent, yacht-rock-ish "Right On Time." They've handed it over to a few other artists to remix -- specifically Tune-Yards, HAAi, and Lynks.

CAMERA OBSCURA - "MAKING MONEY"
Scottish band Camera Obscura are releasing compilation Making Money for Record Store Day (4/23) which collects b-sides, cover versions and more. Here's the title track which was originally a b-side to 2013's "Break It To You Gently."

HOLY FUCK! - "NINETY FIVE"
Holy Fuck! are getting ready to hit the road and in celebration have released this excellent, danceable new single.

MDOU MOCTAR - "TALIAT" (REY SAPIENZ REMIX FT. MC DOUGIS)
Mdou Moctar are releasing Afrique Refait, a remix album, on April 19 via Matador. Among those who have put new spins on Afrique Victime songs are Yugen Blakrock, Aya Metwalli, DJ Diaki, Kabeaushé, and more. You can listen to "Taliat," remixed by The Congo's Rey Sapienz and featuring MC Dougis.

HAND HABITS - “IGNORANCE” (THE WEATHER STATION COVER)
Earlier this week, Joan Shelley & Nathan Salsburg covered "Endless Time" from The Weather Station's How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars, and now Hand Habits has covered "Ignorance" from the same album. Meg Duffy performs it solo, outdoors, under the trees. A lovely version.

MALLRAT - "SURPRISE ME" FT. AZEALIA BANKS
"It's so true that the music you listen to when you're little really shapes you," Mallrat says. "Or at least it hangs out in your subconscious for a very long time. The first album I ever bought with my own money was Broke With Expensive Taste. Azealia Banks was truly the best to work with. It felt like she really cared, which you don't always get with feature artists; often, it can feel like they're fulfilling an obligation. Maybe I'm biased, but hers is one of the most iconic and memorable verses I've ever heard." The track is from her debut album, Butterfly Blue, due out May 13 via Nettwerk.

GILT - "TROPHY HUNTER" (ft. NAT LACUNA of THE HOLY GHOST TABERNACLE CHOIR)
As mentioned, GILT are releasing their new EP Conceit on 5/6 via Smartpunk, and new single "Trophy Hunter" bounces back and forth between their poppy side and their aggressive side, with help from Nat Lacuna of Savannah metalcore band The Holy Ghost Tabernacle Choir.

TAMI NIELSON - "BEYOND THE STARS" (ft. WILLIE NELSON)
New Zealand-via-Canada country singer Tami Neilson releases her new album Kingmaker on July 15 via Outside Music, and new single "Beyond the Stars" is a waltzy ballad that features Willie Nelson, who just had Tami play the 2022 edition of Luck Reunion during SXSW.

RICHARD EDWARDS - "A SEA CHANTY OF SORTS" & "BOARDRIPPLE IS BURNING"
Richard Edwards of Margot & The Nuclear So and So's is releasing the second volume of his Richard Edwards sings the Margot & The Nuclear So and So's songbook in quarantine collection, and you can hear two songs from it, "A Sea Chanty of Sorts" and "Broadripple Is Burning," now. "Me and my buddies thought it might be cool to imagine we were heading to a town for a one night only engagement," he writes. "We’d perform some Margot songs in a manner that felt more or less true to the people we are now. No history. As if they’d never been done before."

COUNTERPUNCH - "REWIRE"
Long-running skatepunk/melodic hardcore band Counterpunch will release their first album in 8 years, Rewire, on June 17 via Thousand Island/SBAM Records. They've just put out the title track, and it's exactly the kind of catchy ripper that this band always does so well, with a heroic thrash solo for good measure.

CARM - "HOLLYWOOD SOUTH"
CARM, the project of trumpet player CJ Camerieri of yMusic, wrote his new single "Hollywood South" after playing his first show under the moniker. "I felt the renewed energy from a crowd of music lovers," he says. “I wanted the trumpet to step forward as the lead voice of the band, and the result is a dancy plunger mute jam that I can’t wait to open these upcoming shows."

FOX LAKE - "METAPMORPHOSIS" & "HABITATION"
Winnipeg emo band Fox Lake will release their debut LP Repose on April 29 via Dipterid Records, Old Press Records, and Coup sur Coup Records, and two songs are out now. If you dig the tangled guitars and shouted hooks of mid '90s emo, give these tracks a spin.

DAMPER - "THE LONGEST HALLWAY"
Also out now on Old Press Records: Bay Area emo band Damper have returned with a new single, "The Longest Hallway," and it puts a fresh spin on the soaring, yearning sounds of '90s Midwest emo.

SONNY SINGH (RED BARAAT) - "AISEE PREET"
Red Baraat's Sonny Singh has announced his debut solo album Chardi Kala, due May 13 via self-release, and new single "Aisee Preet" is a groovy song about a serious topic, as Sonny explains: "The reality is our community usually only makes headlines in the United States in times of tragedy as victims of racist attacks and hate crimes. Part of our intention with this video, and my music in general, is to amplify the beauty, love, and strength in the Sikh community, who have dealt with so much oppressive trauma but remain in chardi kala - revolutionary eternal optimism."

MOON TOOTH - "ALPHA HOWL"
Long Island prog metallers Moon Tooth have shared the final single off upcoming album Phototroph (due 5/13 via Pure Noise), and it's a catchy, tech-y riff feast that comes with a Goodfellas-inspired video.

BROOKE ANNIBALE - "WHAT IF YOU"
Rhode Island-via-Pittsburgh indie singer/songwriter Brooke Aninibale has signed to Nettwerk for a new album, and though most details on the LP are TBA, she did just release new single "What If You," a dreamy, folky song that kinda feels like the middle ground between Weyes Blood and Beach House. She also has upcoming shows, including a run supporting Caroline Spencer that hits NYC's Rockwood Music Hall on April 27.

RANSOM - "CIRCUMSTANCES" (ft. THE GAME, prod. NICHOLAS CRAVEN)
New York rapper Ransom announced a new project, No Rest for the Wicked, due April 29, and the first single is a somber, sentimental, Nicholas Craven-produced track with a verse from West Coast vet The Game.

FRONTPERSON - "CALGARY '88"
Parade, the new album from Frontperson (Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers and Mark Andrew Hamilton of Woodpigeon) is out later this month, and they've shared the third single, "Calgary '88," which Hamilton says "is about memory, and how it gets somewhat smushed together over the years. The 1988 Winter Olympics meant a lot to me as a kid growing up in Alberta—I still have stacks of posters and things at my parents’ place—and for some reason it came to mind as a perfect metaphor for a love affair gone wrong from my own somewhat more recent past. There’s some pretty specific moments in this song that only that person would understand, were he to hear it, but enough I’m sorry baby’s for anyone to get into it. Plus, gated drums for life."

ZAKOOR - "OBJECTS ARE COLORLESS"
Austin group Zakoor will release new album Life Cycle on May 6. The album was produced by Paul Q Kolderie (Pixies, Radiohead, Grant Lee Buffalo). New single "Objects are Colorless," with its hazy guitars and driving rhythm, is a real rush.

URAL THOMAS & THE PAIN - "GIMME SOME ICE CREAM"
“Who doesn't want Ice Cream and lemonade every day in the summer? We love both so we wrote a song about it,” says Ural. His new album Dancing Dimensions is out June 2 via Bella Union.

BRIAN MAY - "MAYBE BABY" (BUDDY HOLLY COVER)
Queen's Brian May paid tribute to Buddy Holly with a cover of "Maybe Baby," from the deluxe reissue of his second solo album, 1998's Another World, due out April 22. "I’ve never done a Buddy Holly song," May said, continuing, "That song more than probably any other, is the reason that I’m here doing this, playing guitar and being a rock star and being a very fortunate person. I heard Buddy Holly make that incredible sound on his guitar, that clang, singing that beautiful song, hearing those wonderful harmonies of the Crickets. And it completely motivated me. I just thought, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to be able to make music that does that to people, makes them feel this kind of yearning, makes them feel this joy and passion."

MAX CREEPS - "BURN IT DOWN"
Probably fictitious punks Max Creeps nonetheless make pretty good music, whoever they are, as you can hear on this track that gives the middle finger to everything.

THE FRIGHNTRS - "ALWAYS"
Back in 2016, Queens reggae/rocksteady band The Frightnrs released their new album Nothing More To Say, which was recorded before frontman Dan Klein tragically passed away at age 33 from A.L.S. A dub version of the album followed the next year, and now they've announced an entirely new album, Always, which was made with vocal stems that Dan had recorded before his passing. Texas rapper Plato III has announced his first album for Polyvinyl, The Devil Has Texas, and new single "Sorry If I Dissed You" interpolates Modest Mouse's "Trailer Trash." Read more about it here.
