Andrew Bird has announced a new album, Inside Problems, due out June 3 via Loma Vista. Bird recorded it live with his four-piece band, with added vocals from Madison Cunningham being some of the only overdubs, and it was produced by Mike Viola. See the cover art and tracklisting below.
The album includes Bird's recent single "Atomized," and he's shared a new single, "Underlands," a mellow, jazzy track with his signature violin and whistling. "You just don't know what's under the surface, be it the land, the sea, our skin," Bird says. "You could be whistling away, projecting contentedness, when really there's a swirling twisted mess underneath. Looking up, there's the knowable universe but unless you get into astrology, you'll find the stars don't owe us anything and you're left less assured than when we thought gods threw down lightning bolts. 'Underlands' introduces an album that deals with the unseen underneath and the membrane that separates your outside problems from your inside problems." Bird is going on a co-headlining tour with Iron & Wine this summer, including an NYC show at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on July 29 with support from Meshell Ndegeocello. Tickets are on sale now, and you can see all dates below.
