Christina Applegate has been hospitalized for weeks in Los Angeles amid her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis (MS). Reports indicate that the 54-year-old actress was admitted to the hospital in late March, though the specific nature of her current medical situation remains private.
While it is unclear if this hospitalization is directly related to her MS, her representative has declined to confirm or deny the details. "I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are," the representative stated. "She's had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast."
Applegate, who was diagnosed with MS in 2021, has been a vocal advocate for awareness regarding the disease. She currently hosts the MeSsy podcast alongside Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also lives with MS. The podcast recently announced a brief hiatus, citing the pair's busy schedules surrounding their respective book tours.
In her recent memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, released on March 3, Applegate provided a candid look at the grueling nature of the disease. She described the daily physical toll, noting that simple tasks like grabbing a glass of water or walking across a room can feel insurmountable. "I have infusions every six months to slow the disease's progress, but those infusions kill all my B cells, making me prone to infection," she wrote. "My stomach frequently slows to a halt, leaving me to rush to the emergency room in agony."
Beyond the physical pain, Applegate has been open about the profound fatigue that accompanies her condition. She has previously shared that she is often confined to her bed for the majority of the day, though she remains deeply committed to her role as a mother to her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie. "I tell myself, 'Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed. And that's what I do,'" she told PEOPLE earlier this year.
As the public continues to offer support, Applegate's history of transparency regarding her health remains a source of inspiration for many facing similar chronic conditions.
