Inside Alina Valentina’s Dystopian World of ‘NPC Dream’

Alina Valentina has never been interested in musical boundaries. Based in The Hague, the producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist has built a sound that draws from acid, electro, synth wave, EBM, and industrial influences while remaining distinctly her own. Across a growing catalogue of solo releases, collaborations, and production work, she has developed a reputation for crafting music that is both fiercely individual and built for the dancefloor.

Her latest project, ‘NPC Dream’, arrives via Schrödinger’s Box as an eight-track exploration of shifting tempos, dystopian atmospheres, vocoder-laden narratives, and relentless machine funk. Built from sketches developed over several years, the album reflects both her fascination with video game culture and deeper existential questions inspired by Albert Camus’ ‘The Myth of Sisyphus’.

A Musical Evolution

Reflecting on her formative years, Valentina notes that she grew up in a household where music was constant. With parents who were passionate listeners of new wave, post-punk, and experimental jazz, her path toward synthesizers felt natural. After years of playing violin, drums, and guitar, she eventually found her true calling in music production after studying the craft in 2009. Despite the challenges of balancing creative work with the demands of the modern workforce, she has emerged as a formidable force in the electronic scene.

The Concept Behind ‘NPC Dream’

The album’s title, ‘NPC Dream’, stems from a fascination with the concept of non-player characters in video games—entities stuck in a programmed loop. Valentina explains that the album explores the intersection between these digital constructs and human existence. "Mindlessly fulfilling meaningless tasks in a meaningless world," she notes. "The track questions whether we should embrace this meaninglessness or keep dreaming."

The project also features a notable collaboration with Filmmaker, an artist whose dystopian sound aligns perfectly with Valentina’s vision. "I have always been a big fan of Filmmaker’s dystopian sound," she says. "When I was finishing ‘NPC Dream’, I was given the freedom to choose an artist for a remix, so of course I had to ask him."

Looking Ahead

While Valentina is currently focused on her work with the black metal band Invunche, she remains deeply committed to her electronic roots. With a rotation that includes DJ Screw, Carla dal Forno, SALEM, and Tyrann, she continues to draw inspiration from a wide spectrum of sounds. As she prepares for the release of ‘NPC Dream’ on June 19th, 2026, it is clear that her journey is only just beginning.
