Abby Elliott and Bill Kennedy File for Divorce After Nearly a Decade

Actress Abby Elliott and her husband, producer Bill Kennedy, are officially divorcing after nearly a decade of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in September 2016, are parting ways just two months shy of their 10th wedding anniversary.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Elliott filed for divorce on July 8, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation. The filing indicates that the actress is seeking joint custody of the couple’s two children, ages 5 and 3.

Elliott, 39, first gained widespread recognition as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where she appeared in 81 episodes between 2008 and 2012. In recent years, she achieved further critical acclaim for her portrayal of Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto in the hit FX series The Bear. Her performance in the show, which concluded its five-season run this summer, earned her a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Beyond her television success, Elliott has appeared in various films, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Cheaper by the Dozen, alongside numerous guest roles on shows like How I Met Your Mother and Inside Amy Schumer.

The couple’s professional paths first crossed on the set of the 2014 film Sex Ed, which Kennedy wrote and in which Elliott starred. Kennedy has built a notable career behind the scenes as a writer and producer, with credits including The Morning Show, Tell Me Lies, and House of Cards. He also served as a producer on the 2013 film Life on the Line.

Elliott and Kennedy welcomed their first child, daughter Edith, in 2020, followed by the birth of their son, William, in June 2023.
