Maceo Plex has officially released his remix of Empire of the Sun’s ‘DNA’ via Universal Music. The original track, which first appeared on the Australian duo’s acclaimed 2013 album ‘Ice on the Dune,’ has become a modern classic, amassing over 70 million global streams since its debut.
This latest release arrives on the heels of a busy summer for the producer, which included high-profile appearances in Ibiza, a standout debut on Rekids, and the release of ‘The Plan’ via his own Ellum Audio imprint. Having road-tested the ‘DNA’ rework in his live sets throughout the season, the track has already generated significant buzz among fans and industry peers alike.
Musically, ‘DNA (Maceo Plex Remix)’ is a masterclass in tension and release. The production is built around a foundation of rolling drums and heavy bass, layered with intricate vocal fragments and atmospheric synths. As the track progresses, the iconic original vocal is seamlessly integrated into the arrangement, shifting the song toward a deeper, more driving techno framework while preserving the melodic essence of the original.
