Architects frontman Sam Carter has spoken out regarding the significant impact that online criticism of his vocal performance has had on his mental health. In a vulnerable and candid statement, the musician revealed that the constant scrutiny he has faced during recent live shows has led to severe anxiety, ultimately stripping away the joy he once found in performing.
“It’s time for me to be honest here, and it’s not going to be easy, as it’s something I’ve worked tirelessly at over the last year,” Carter wrote in a post on Instagram. “My anxiety and constant focus on my voice has gotten me to a place where the joy of performing has been taken away from me.”

Carter explained that the negative discourse surrounding his voice has created a psychological barrier, making it difficult for him to execute the vocal techniques he has relied on for two decades. He noted that matters escalated following a challenging performance at Rock am Ring, where he attempted a new technique in front of a massive crowd. The subsequent influx of cruel comments left him feeling both physically and emotionally exhausted.

In his message, Carter expressed gratitude for the support of his bandmates and his wife, while acknowledging that he has been seeking professional help through weekly therapy and medication. He emphasized that he is a human being striving for his best, even when that effort does not result in perfection.
Looking ahead, Carter is focused on reclaiming his passion for music as the band continues their tour with KoRn. “On this tour with Korn, I’m going to scream the words from a place of passion and determination,” he stated. “Ultimately, I want to get back to a place where I’m having fun with my friends onstage. It’s not going to be perfect, but I’m not, so that’s that. Be kind. You never know what someone is truly going through.”
