Artists are getting creative in isolation as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, and Alesso and Liam Payne managed to film a music video for their new collaboration, "Midnight" -- and win over fans in the process.
In this week's eclectic new music poll, Alesso and Payne's joint effort brought in about 37 percent of the total vote. The selection in this roundup was diverse and covered multiple genres, with the Strokes' latest, The New Abnormal, coming in second (20 percent) and Twenty One Pilots' "Level of Concern," which also ruminates on quarantine in the time of COVID-19, came in third (13 percent).
The setup for the "Midnight" music video was minimal, and this was refreshing for Payne, who compared the unusual approach to his very first music video shoot with One Direction in an interview with Billboard.
"I remember my first music video with 'What Makes You Beautiful' and it was a 14 hour day and a 16 hour day back-to-back," Payne recalled of the experience. "It was fun because we were on the beach, and I was enjoying the vibe, but at a certain point it's like, 'Oh my god, I've heard this song three million times today."
