Alt-J and Portugal. The Man brought their co-headlining tour to NYC's Madison Square Garden on Monday (4/11) for a great night of music and visual spectacle. Pictures from their sets by P Squared are in this post.
The visual element for Alt-J's set was especially impressive, as the band played on an elevated stage, encased in a box of sorts with images projected on all sides, which at one point made it look like it had filled up entirely with water. Their set included "Matilda," "Tesselate," "Fitzpleasure," "Something Good," and "Left Hand Free," "Hard Drive Gold" (from new album The Dream) and "Breezeblocks," which made up their encore.
Portugal. The Man injected a lot of humor into their set via projected messages, like "Hey Billy Joel, thanks for letting us borrow the place for a night" and congratulating the NY Rangers. As they always do, they opened the show by welcoming up indigenous people whose land they were on that night before starting the show in earnest. They opened with a medley of metal covers (Metallica, Slayer, Pantera), before launching into their own material, including "Live in the Moment," recent single "What, Me Worry?," "Evil Friends," and their long-time-coming smash "Feel It Still."
Cherry Glazerr opened the the night but sadly we missed their set. Check out setlists and fan shot video for Alt-J and Portugal. The Man below
