Brandi Carlile & Pink, Tori Amos, and TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone covered Sinéad O’Connor (watch)

Following the sad news of Sinéad O’Connor’s death at 56 years old, her fellow musicians have been paying tribute to her on social media, and as Stereogum points out, a few have covered her songs too. Brandi Carlile and Pink, who are currently touring together, teamed up for a rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U;” while Prince wrote the song, and his side project the Family recorded it first, Sinéad’s cover is the track she is perhaps best known for.

Tori Amos has covered Sinéad in the past and wrote on social media on Wednesday, “Sinead was a force of nature. A brilliant songwriter & performer whose talent we will not see the like of again. Such passion, such intense presence & a beautiful soul, who battled her own personal demons courageously. Be at peace dear Sinead, you will forever be in our hearts.” At her San Francisco show last night, she did solo renditions of Sinéad’s “Three Babies” and traditional song “I Am Stretched on Your Grave,” which Sinéad recorded for 1990’s I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.

Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio shared a video on Instagram of himself covering “Black Boys on Mopeds,” and talked about meeting Sinéad in July of 2012 at Lincoln Center. “She was open, gracious, generous and patient with me as I gushed about how much her music meant to me,” he writes. “She made me feel like I belonged in the same room as her. Loved her balance of defiance and beauty. I don’t know the circumstance surrounding her death but it’s a motherfucking shame. I want a world that can sustain the likes of her into old age. Here’s to the shit talking prophets and iconoclasts. I learned the meaning of the word iconoclast when she tore a headshot of the Pope in half on live television. Thank You Sinéad. So much love to you on your journey.”
