Chris Reardon Speaks Out About His Creating Process And New Release “Drifting”
We had a chance to talk to Chris Reardon, a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer who recently dropped an outstanding single “Drifting,” an experimental alternative rock song bursting with energy and bringing something new to the rock scene.
Will you tell us a little bit about who Chris Reardon is?
Yeah sure, so my name’s Chris Reardon. I’m a solo artist, singer-songwriter, producer, musician from the UK. I was born in Coventry (UK) then lived in Hong Kong until my teens when I moved to Reading (UK). I started making music from an early age and really fell in love with rock music and particularly more alternative stuff; anything from Pink Floyd to AFI. I think picking the guitar up at eleven and my Dad introducing me to Led Zeppelin had a lot to do with it, because once I hit my first chord on the guitar I was obsessed with music! And still am!
Will you tell us more about your latest single “Drifting”? What is the story behind it?
It’s really hard to explain making music or songwriting because I feel the songs kind of write themselves in a weird way. Once I start working on music, the whole thing seems to envelop and unfold. You’re flooded with images, ideas, melodies, sounds with some control but you’re so sucked in it's not something that can be explained easily. It all happens at an almost sub-conscious yet completely conscious and intellectual level, because there is an element of working out the puzzle. This is why I make all the music on my own and also mix and master all my work, it all happens simultaneously.
Lyrically however, the song is about feeling okay with being alone, in regard to love and relationships, and not jumping into anything because of social pressures or feeling like you’re lacking in something.
Your music is full of different genres, and influences - how would you describe your sound?
Yeah a blend of alternative/rock and electronic music.
What’s your biggest inspiration in creating your music?
I love making music and am completely fascinated by it. My biggest inspiration is wanting to push boundaries and creating something fresh and new, especially in the rock genre.
How does your creative process look like? Do you firstly write lyrics or come up with music?
No music always comes first. I kind of know when a song is coming. You can feel it build inside you, then I go in my studio and the magic happens, hopefully! Not every time but most times!
Are you planning any collaborations with other artists? What’s your dream collaboration?
No plans but I’d love to work with Charlie XCX’s recent producer collaboration PC Music. Her last two records are brilliant pop albums, I love the production on them, loads of detail and cool things happening working with her great songs.
What’s next for you? Any planned releases?
Yeah another single coming out soon, very excited for it to come out.
Where can we find you online?
All the usuals, Facebook, Instagram and my website which will have some cool “website only” content. Haha! Sounds like there’s gonna be weird nudes on there or something – no, but some behind the scenes stuff and things like that! Thanks a lot! Chris
