Christina Perri revealed via social media that she had a miscarriage on Friday (Jan. 10), a week before the "Jar of Hearts" singer and her husband Paul Costabile were ready to share the news that they were expecting a second child together.
"We are shocked and completely heartbroken," she confessed. "We were only 1 week away from sharing the news so i feel like its also important to share this news too."
Perri used the ultrapersonal note to "help change the story & stigma around miscarriage, secrecy and shame," she wrote. "i am so sad but not ashamed. i am ever reminded how amazing and powerful women are at making life and at healing. to all the mothers who have been here and who will be here, i see you and i love you."
Various celebrities commented on her Instagram post, including actor Taylor Lautner, Yael Cohen Braun (who opened up about her own miscarriage with husband and music mogul Scooter Braun in 2016) and singer Andy Grammer.
"I'm so sorry love, sending all my love and light," Cohen Braun wrote. "You've got a community of us mamas who have been there and see and love you."
The 33-year-old artist wrote that she was not discouraged by the devastating news -- "when the time feels right we will try again" -- but acknowledged today will be about mourning "our little life lost."
Perri and Costabile have one nearly 2-year-old daughter, Carmella Stanley Costabile. The "Thousand Years" artist dedicated an entire album to her firstborn for her first birthday last year titled songs for carmella: lullabies & sing-a-longs.
