Coldplay have released the video for their song ‘The Karate Kid’, which features the star of the 1980s film of the same name, Ralph Macchio.
In the video Macchio, who played Daniel LaRusso in the original trilogy of The Karate Kid and now stars in Cobra Kai, stars as a busker who gets a ticket to a Coldplay stadium show.
When frontman Chris Martin can’t sing, he invites someone from the crowd onstage to help him – which turns out to be the busker played by Macchio.

The music video’s storyline was teased by Coldplay when the band played ‘The Karate Kid’ for the first time last month at their show in Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium – where Macchio made an appearance.
Before beginning the song, frontman Chris Martin joked that he was losing his voice and asked if there was anybody out there who could help him sing the next song. With that, Macchio walked on stage to an ovation from the crowd and lip-synced to pre-recorded vocals by Martin.

The track is taken from the expanded Full Moon Edition of the band’s album ‘Moon Music’, which came out in September. It has since become the fastest-selling record by a UK act in 2024 so far and earned the biggest week for a British act on the UK’s Official Albums Chart since Adele‘s ’30’.
NME gave ‘Moon Music’ four stars in a review, calling it a “love-fuelled exercise in resilience”. Ahead of the release of ‘Moon Music’, Chris Martin spoke to NME exclusively in his only written interview for the album. During the interview, he revealed what inspired the album and how this record was designed to help people feel better and more positive.
In other Coldplay news, Chris Martin and co have announced their biggest-ever show in the Indian city of Ahmedabad next year. They will be performing at the 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25, which is the largest stadium in the world, on their ‘Music Of The Spheres’ World Tour.
The band have also been announced as part of the soundtrack of Christmas-themed romantic comedy, Hot Frosty. The film, directed by Jerry Ciccoritti, follows Kathy (Lacey Chabert) who, while dealing with the death of her husband, magically brings a handsome snowman to life.
