Dead & Company, featuring Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti, recently announced a summer tour, their seventh trek since forming in 2015, and reportedly, it's to be their last. Sources tell Rolling Stone that 2022 will be the last year the band tours together, and that their final show is the tour closer, on July 16 at Citi Field.
Dead & Company's management has not issued an official comment at this time, but this tour had been rumored, among fans, to potentially be the band's last. Some pointed to the health problems that caused Kreutzmann to miss multiple shows last fall, including their Playing in the Sand Mexico concert vacation, which was ultimately cancelled at the last minute.
UPDATE: Weir responded to Rolling Stone's post on Twitter, writing, "News to me…"
Rolling Stone also issued a new update, writing, "Sources close to Dead and Company initially claimed that 2022 will be the last year the band tours together. However, after Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir tweeted his surprise about Dead and Company. suspending touring, the same sources changed their tune and say discussions continue about the fate of the band. The band itself said in a statement: 'Dead & Company has made no official decision as to this being their final tour.'"
