Emily King isn't starting 2020 with a bang, per se. She's slowing things down, as heard in the single she released Wednesday (Jan. 8) that fans have heard before from her Grammy-nominated album Scenery. "Teach You" takes on a new ethereal, acoustic form, and King's friend, collaborator and recent tourmate Sara Bareilles lends her angelic vocals this time around.
King plans to release a collection of 11 acoustic versions of songs across her catalog titled Sides, which is due Jan. 17 via Making Music Records/ ATO Records. Her previously released acoustic singles "Look at Me Now" and "Radio" will join the track list, as well as other hits from her 2011 EP The Seven, 2016 album The Switch and 2019 album Scenery.
Sides was produced by Jeremy Most and features string arrangements by Bob Moose. King will go back on the road in January and February to promote the acoustic album, and fans can find tickets here.
King currently holds two 2020 Grammy nods: one for best R&B song ("Look at Me Now") and the other for best engineered album, non-classical (Scenery).
The new soothing version of "Teach You" gives the 34-year-old a pause in her jam-packed schedule already set for the new year. The strings are poignant and pensive as she coos the chorus with Bareilles.
