Jenny Lewis rattled the NPR offices in Washington, D.C., with her tambourine and sing-along with staffers for her Tiny Desk Concert.
Her three-song set included "Rabbit Hole" and "Do Si Do," from her fourth studio album On the Line, and ended with a sizzling live rendition of "Just One of the Guys" from her 2014 LP The Voyager. But what truly sizzled about her last song was its inspiration from Hot Pockets.
"Oh sh--," she interrupted her band, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Emily Elbert and bassist/vocalist Anna Butterss. "I haven't ripped off many songs in my life, but I have ripped off the Hot Pockets theme in like three songs. So in my mind, there's like a steaming Hot Pocket waiting for me."
She first cooked up "Rabbit Hole" as the mini-performance's appetizer, and the real treat was how she guided the audience in a steady sing-along, dressing the heartbreak jam as an easygoing acoustic tune.
