One day after Pres. Trump drew widespread criticism for his insistence in a press conference that the COVID-19 pandemic is a result of a "Chinese virus," singer Lauren Jauregui called out the inflammatory language in a sharply-worded tweet Thursday morning (March 19).
"Now is not the time to be spreading racist divisiveness, nor praising yourself for your pseudo-victories over your incredibly heinous border policies," longtime immigrants rights advocate Jauregui wrote.
Two days earlier, mask-wearing ICE agents made a series of immigration raids 24 hours after the state's governor and L.A.'s mayor ordered citizens to get serious about social distancing. Facing criticism, ICE said on Wednesday that it will "reduce" those raids.
"You are not a president. You are a pompous narcissist w/ a Twitter. Please let real leaders lead during this time," Jauregui concluded in response to a tweet from Trump, in which he once again repeated the controversial phrase and praised his own actions to "close the 'borders' From China -- against the wishes of almost all."
