LeAnn Rimes continues her weekly LovE Sessions today, fittingly on Valentine’s Day. Each Friday in the month of February, the country singer plans to release a new cover of one of her favorite love songs. Today, (Feb. 14), she chose Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over.”
Filmed at her Los Angeles home by her husband, actor Eddie Cibrian, Rimes is shown seated alone at the head of her dining room. The stripped down track features Rimes singing the song on her own in a dimly lit room as her stunning falsetto is showcased.
“‘When the Party’s Over’ has a haunting quality about it that has always moved me,” Rimes said in a statement. “When dreaming up the way to cover this song, that haunting quality is something I wanted to expand on. Singing it a capella does just that and there’s also an intimacy, a vulnerable connection from artist to listener, almost like you were hearing me sing a deeply confessional journal entry.”
This week’s performance follows Rimes’ cover of Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me.” Of the weekly covers idea, Rimes previously told Billboard it’s a way to have fun with music.
“Love is a big topic to cover, and not everyone is in a relationship with a lover, so we cover all bases, from falling in love to heartbreak,” she said. “We keep it super simple, filming it in our house. My husband has an incredible eye, so we wrangle him in to film it all. We usually learn and arrange the song right before we film, so what you’re getting is very raw and real.”
