Lisa Marie Presley discusses regret after getting abortion in new memoir

Lisa Marie Presley’s memoir has shared details about her regret of getting an abortion while she was dating Danny Keough.

Presley’s posthumous memoir, From Here To The Great Unknown, was published on October 8 and recalls her time in Graceland as a child, her battle with opioid addictionthe loss of her son Benjamin and more.

Lisa Marie – who is the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley – began working on the book before her death in January 2023. It was completed by her daughter Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six), who listened to tapes of memories left behind by her mother.

One chapter of the memoir saw the singer-songwriter open up about her decision to terminate a pregnancy while she was in a relationship with Danny.

“I ended up having an abortion. And it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. I was devastated,” she wrote (per Music News). “I did it and we both cried. We were both destroyed and not long after that we fell apart and broke up. I couldn’t live with myself.”

Lisa Marie was not able to get over the abortion and “planned and plotted and schemed” to get pregnant again. “I didn’t care if he wanted to be a part of it or not. I felt that I had to redeem, to make amends, because I still couldn’t believe I had had an abortion. I thought, ‘I’m going to have this child. There is a child I need to be having,'” she said.

She continued: “I would be talking to the lost child, saying, ‘I’m so sorry, I can’t believe I fucking did that. Please forgive me and stay with me until I get pregnant again.'”

Lisa Marie went on to confess that she had “trapped” Danny, saying “I didn’t really mean to, but I did.” The two were married for six years between 1988 and 1994 and had two children together: Riley, who was born in 1989, and Benjamin, born in 1992. The latter committed suicide at the age of 27 in 2020.

Elsewhere in the book, the singer-songwriter has also shared details about her relationship with Michael Jackson, claiming that he was “still a virgin” when they began dating.

The two met when they were young and got together romantically after Jackson declared his love for her in Las Vegas – leading her to divorce her then-husband Danny Keough.

“He told me he was still a virgin. I think he had kissed Tatum O’Neal, and he’d had a thing with Brooke Shields, which hadn’t been physical apart from a kiss,” she wrote (as per People). “He said Madonna had tried to hook up with him once, too, but nothing happened. I was terrified because I didn’t want to make the wrong move.”

The two remained married for around two years – finalising their divorce in August 1996.

To celebrate the release, Riley has embarked on a book tour , which will see her pay tribute to her mother. For the tour, she will also be joined by currently unnamed special guests on each of the dates.

The tour will take place across six dates in October, with stops in New York, Graceland, St. Louis, Nashville, London and Los Angeles. You can get tickets to the book tour here.
