One of the TV hits of winter was Showtime series Yellowjackets, that mixed Lord of the Flies with Lost and a big dose of '90s nostalgia. Adding to that was the score by Shudder to Think's Craig Wedren and That Dog.'s Anna Waronker, as well as their theme song to the show, "No Return." Wedren & Waronker's full score, which they've titled Blood Hive, has now been released, and is out via Lakeshore Records.
“Making music for the first season of Yellowjackets was a rare gift,” Wedren and Waronker said. “We were able to create something vicious, elegant and new that not only paired well with the show, but really connected with people. This is music we would be proud to share under any circumstances, and we're super excited and grateful to unleash it in soundtrack form."
In addition to creepy, atmospheric pieces like "Missing Eyes" and "Let the Darkness Set Us Free," and more propulsive cuts like "Snarler," they've also included a new extended version of "No Return" that takes the original one-minute opening credits theme and turns it into a full rock song. Listen to the whole thing below.
You can also listen to the official Yellowjackets playlist that features songs used in the series -- including Alanis Morissette, Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, Hole, Throwing Muses, PJ Harvey, Paloma Faith, Portishead, Dinosaur Jr, Love and Rockets, Montell Jordan, Prodigy, and more -- below.
Speaking of returns, no word yet on when Yellowjackets Season 2 will be out. Let's hope for December, 2022.
