Louis Tomlinson is breaking down his walls. On Friday (Jan. 17), the pop star unveiled his latest, appropriately-titled single.
On the mid-tempo ballad, the former One Direction-er reflects on breaking up with a former flame shortly after the boy band's indefinite hiatus was announced in January 2016. "It's about coming home having been on tour, soon after the band had split," he said of the song's inspiration in a statement. "I had found some of my girlfriend's clothes in the cupboard and it hit me what I'd done."
"The day you walked away/ And took the higher ground/ Was the day that I became/ The man that I am now/ But these high walls came up short/ Now I stand taller than them all," the pop star croons over romantic strings and keys on the track's sensitive chorus.
"Walls" serves as the title track for Tomlinson's forthcoming debut solo album, which will also feature previously-released singles "Two of Us," "Kill My Mind," "We Made It" and "Don't Let It Break Your Heart." The long-gestating LP is slated for release on Jan. 31 via Syco Music/Arista Records.
