No wave legend Lydia Lunch has a podcast with musician and composer Tim Dahl (Child Abuse, Lydia Lunch Retrovirus, etc), The Lydian Spin, that "focuses on writers, musicians, producers, actors, artists and storytellers in general who have a unique spin about maintaining one's sanity while doing what they were born to do...create." It's run for 51 episodes now, including features on Buzz Osborne, Babes in Toyland's Lori Barbero, JG Thirwell, and many others.
For an early June Protest Special, which features "V.Vale and Marian Wallace of RE/SEARCH Publications, Author & Musician Eugene Robinson of OXBOW, Filmmaker Eva Aridjis, and Weasel Walter in a special podcast to discuss the protests that are raging throughout America," Lydia begins the show, following a musical introduction composed by Joey Koneko, with a spoken word piece railing against police brutality, racism, and the Trump administation. "We do not need another election," she says, "we need an insurrection," going on to blast the ineffectiveness of Trump's coronavirus response, the racist for-profit prison system, and more. She calls the piece "a short rant I wrote to vent my own frustration at the endless vulgarity of some of America’s most grievous offenses. Thank you for listening." It's a powerful, worthwhile listen, and you can hear it beginning the episode and via a video below.
