Mandy Moore is finally ready to get back into our ears. After nearly a year of teasing, the singer announced the release date for her upcoming seventh studio album, Silver Landings, on Tuesday (Jan. 14).
The This Is Us star's first new collection in a decade will drop on March 6 through Verve Forecast and feature the title track, which a release explained was the final tune written for the album. The song "became emblematic of the journey she's been through in the past decade, what it took to get to the point of re-embracing this part of her life, and the expectations therein."
To tide us over, Moore also released the song "Save a Little For Yourself," an emotional, California country rock ballad with a live performance video for a song that Moore said kind of felt like a much-needed sit-down chat with herself. "Not all pain is black and blue/ Strongest people come unglued/ When someone gets the best of you/ Don't let them take the rest of you," she sings on the track. "Sometimes writing a song feels like giving myself the advice I know I need the most and it's often the hardest to heed," she said in a statement. "It makes the song almost a mantra of sorts -- something I know I'll continue learning because it bears repeating."
Mooore described the track as "sort of the other half" of the kind of love song we don't always talk about. "Sure, we should open ourselves up, let people in and love them as wholly as possible but none of that carries any water if we're not taking care of ourselves first and foremost. It might not be as romantic, but it's an equally important part of the equation," she said.
According to the release, the 10-track album was recorded live-to-tape with a full band in the same studio in L.A. and produced by long-time collaborator Mike Viola, with husband Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes) prominently featured alongisde former Riley Kiley member Jason Boesel. "I wanted to make a very California-sounding record -- something that feels sunshiny and airy and natural, something you could listen to driving up and down the PCH with all the windows rolled down on a beautiful weekend day," she said, citing George Harrison's melodies, Joni Mitchell's poetry and the "stomp" of Fleetwood Mac as inspirations.
Moore is heading out on the road to support the album, with a North American tour slated to kick off on March 20 in Pittsburgh at the Benedum Center, with shows in theaters including The Beacon Theater in New York (March 24), The Chicago Theatre in Chicago (April 18), The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville (April 5), The Warfield in San Francisco (May 2) and The Majestic Theatre in Dallas (April 23).
