The pop stars practice social distancing on Cyrus' new Instagram Live show.
Fans praised Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato as the "queens of self-love" Tuesday (March 17) on Cyrus' new Instagram Live show Bright Minded: Live With Miley Cyrus. The show focuses on "how to stay LIT with love in dark times," but Lovato reflected on the darkness she faced while recording her "Confident" banger back in 2015.
BRIGHT MINDED is an acronym for each subtopic Cyrus plans to address with her special guests for her earnest episodes Monday-Friday at 11:30 a.m. PT -- Blessings/curses of social media, Reliable sources, Immune boosters, Getting active, Healthy anxiety, Thoughts and attention/toxins, Memories, Inflammation, Negative thoughts, Dedicating 15 minutes to something new and Sleep. But when the "Slide Away" singer landed on the ninth letter of the titular acronym -- negative thoughts -- Lovato recalled her recording process for the No. 21 Billboard Hot 100 "Confident" single from her album by the same name.
"When I did my song 'Confident,' my message was that I was so confident but in reality, I was working out so much and eating such a strict diet that I wasn't confident. I wasn't," she admitted. "And now I feel like I'm more confident than I was back then. And I might be heavier than I was, but I'm more confident now. And that's better to me. I'd take that over being thinner and miserable any day."
Lovato killed "the ANT" -- which is what Cyrus calls the practice of ridding Automatic Negative Thoughts -- and their approximately 45,000 live viewers felt a nostalgic wave hit as the former Disney Channel stars shined a light on a positive message. Back in 2009, the two singers recorded the Disney's Friends for Change single "Send It On" alongside Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers, which peaked at No. 20 on the Hot 100.
Lovato follows Cyrus' therapist Dr. Daniel Amen as the second guest of the IG Live series, which the pop singer-turned-host made it loud and clear would not involve politics or discussion about the current coronavirus pandemic. "It is purely for HOPE and escapism!" she declared on her Instagram story Monday ahead of the first segment. "Me and my guests using our influence and platform to bring optimism while connecting from afar in a time of social distancing , it will prove this does not mean Isolation! We are so fortunate to have tech that allows us to stay united!"
