Omni Sound has announced ‘When There Is No Sun’, a forthcoming compilation curated by Ricardo Villalobos that reimagines the legacy of Sun Ra through a contemporary electronic lens. The first preview, ‘When Angels Speak (feat. Saul Williams)’ by Underground Resistance, is now available.

The project features a diverse lineup of electronic producers reshaping material from two recent Omni Sound projects: Living Sky by the Sun Ra Arkestra and My Words Are Music, a spoken-word release centered on Sun Ra’s poetry. Contributors include Underground Resistance, Calibre, Chez Damier, A Guy Called Gerald, Baris K, SHE Spells Doom, and Villalobos himself. Poetic interludes come from Saul Williams, Anthony Joseph, Mahogany L. Browne, and others.

Rather than simple remixes, the tracks reframe Sun Ra’s soundworld through experimental edits, rhythmic reconstructions, and textual collage. The result is a cross-generational dialogue between Ra’s original visions and contemporary electronic forms.
