Roger Waters rips David Gilmour over access to Pink Floyd website: “He thinks he IS Pink Floyd”

Over the weekend, Roger Waters shared a new version of Pink Floyd's "Mother," which he recorded with help from his band members, who all contributed their parts from their respective homes. "Social distancing is a necessary evil in Covid world," writes Roger. "Watching 'Mother' reminds me just how irreplaceable the joy of being in a band is." You can watch that below.

Roger then followed that up last night with another video, titled "Announcement," where he thanks folks for watching "Mother" and then proceeds to rip into David Gilmour for never mentioning Roger's solo releases or activities in any of the official news on the Pink Floyd website or socials. He mentions the "Camp David" attempt last year to make peace with the other surviving Pink Floyd members and "get past this awful impasse."

"One of the things I suggested...whoever the 30 million of you are that subscribe to the webpage, you do so because of the body of work the five of us created," Roger says. "It seems to me that it would be fair and correct that we should have equal access to you all. David thinks he owns it. I think he thinks because I left the band in 1985, that he owns Pink Floyd, that he is Pink Floyd, that I'm irrelevant and I should just keep my mouth shut."

Roger then mentions "rumblings and grumblings in the ranks," bringing up David Gilmour's "Von Trapped Family" videos he's been making during lockdown. "Why do we have to watch [Gilmour's wife] Polly Samson for year after year, month after month, day after day...and the Von Trappeds reading us excerpts from their novels to get us to go to sleep at night? We don't get to hear about anything that Roger's doing, or This is Not a Drill, or when he makes a piece of work...this is wrong. We should rise up....or just change the name of the band to Spinal Tap, and then everything will be hunky dory." He then says, smiling, "I'm not going to get all weird or sarcastic, though that is the direction which I am known to lean." He also mentions his new concert film Us + Them and how it's just gone out digitally, and gets in a few digs at Donald Trump too. You can watch the whole video below.

Roger's This is Not a Drill tour, which was to have happened this summer and fall, has been postponed.
