Sophie Turner may be a Jonas Brothers stan now, but that hasn't always been the case.
In Elle's April issue, the Game of Thrones star (and wife of middle JoBro Joe) revealed that she actually despised the JoBros growing up. “My friends and I were not Jonas Brothers fans,” she told the magazine with a laugh, proclaiming that her boy band loyalty was elsewhere.
“There was this band in the U.K. called Busted. They had a hit called ‘Year 3000.’ It was amazing, and we were huge Busted fans,” Turner explained. “Then the Jonas Brothers covered the song and made it massive. And Busted broke up. We thought it was all the Jonas Brothers’ fault. So, we hated them.”
So what changed her bitter mind? Meeting Joe Jonas -- but Turner admits that she was skeptical right up until they were face to face. The two met at a bar in Camden after Jonas had slid into Turner's DMs asking to hang (suggested by his agent, who Turner said thought they'd "really hit it off"). "I expected him to show up with security and everything," she said. "I thought, ‘He’s gonna be such a dick.’ I brought all my guy friends to come with me to meet him, because in the back of my mind I still worried that he could be a catfish—or I don’t know what."
Turns out, he was the total opposite. "He brought a friend, and they drank just as hard as the rest of us," she recalled. "I remember the two of us spending only a couple of minutes on the dance floor, and then we just found a space far in the corner and we just talked. We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I was, like, not bored. It wasn’t contrived. It wasn’t small talk—it was just so easy. And soon we were, like, inseparable. I went on tour with him."
Jonas and Turner announced their engagement in October 2017, with Joe popping the question on their first anniversary. The pair first wed in an Elvis impersonator-officiated Las Vegas ceremony after the JoBros' fiery Billboard Music Awards performance on May 1, 2019, then tied the knot in a more lavish ceremony at a Southern France chateau in June 2019.
Turner also talked to Elle about the "built-in girlfriends" she now has in Nick's wife, Priyanka Chopra, and Kevin's wife, Danielle Jonas. Known as the "J Sisters," the trio "can relate on so many levels," Turner said, adding, "we’re all one big family, because the boys are best friends.”
Adult Sophie certainly feels differently about the Jonas Brothers, but even her teenage self can be satisfied: Not only has Busted since reunited, but they performed "Year 3000" with the Jonas Brothers at Capital's Summertime Ball last June. And the ultimate full-circle moment? They wished Mr. and Mrs. Jonas "love and happiness to the year 3000 and beyond."
