Superchunk, The Mountain Goats, Iron & Wine, The dB's, Hiss Golden Messenger, Don Dixon & Marti Jones, Erich Bachmann (Archers of Loaf), and more North Carolina artists have contributed cover songs to a new benefit comp that aims to help much-loved, long-running Carrboro, NC rock club Cat's Cradle through COVID-19.
“Like many musicians out there, I miss playing shows, and like many fans I miss seeing bands. When it is safe to get together to watch live music again, it will be a disaster for all of us if our favorite venues aren’t around to host the artists we love," writes Superchunk's Mac McCaughan, “I literally grew up seeing bands at the Cat’s Cradle and playing there with all my bands, going back to high school. Superchunk is excited to be part of this album, playing one of our favorite songs to support our favorite venue.”
None of the songs from Cover Charge: NC Artists Go Under Cover To Benefit Cat’s Cradle have been released yet, but Superchunk cover Go-Go's "Can't Stop the World," The Mountain Goats cover Paradise Lost's "The Longest Winter," Iron & Wine cover Kingsbury Manx's "Piss Diary," The dB's cover The Kinks' "I'm on an Island," and Hiss Golden Messenger cover "Free's "Travellin' in Style." You can check out the full tracklist and artwork below.
Preorders for the compilation begin Friday, July 3 and include an instant download of five of the tracks, with additional tracks will be released subscription-style each Friday throughout the month of July.
