Tegan and Sara are hitting the road! On Wednesday (March 11), the Canadian duo announced they'll be heading out on a North American headlining tour this summer to promote their latest album, Hey, I'm Just Like You.
The 40-date run will kick off May 18 at The Knitting Factory Concert House in Spokane, Wash., with the first leg wrapping June 6 at Chicago's Riviera Theatre. The tour's second leg then picks up July 30 and runs through Sept. 2 with stops in major cities like Portland, New York City, Dallas and Philadelphia. Openers for the jaunt include rising artists Georgia, Jackie Mendoza, Ider and Claud.
In an email to fans, the band acknowledged ongoing fears related to the coronavirus, but are staying positive as the growing pandemic unfolds. "We are proceeding optimistically with our planning but acknowledge that we will watch the developing situation with COVID-19 closely and heed all recommendations about social gatherings as the tour approaches," they said.
The band also shared a note about how they're combatting scalpers: "The spike in the actions of scalpers and secondary sites – buying up tickets to our shows and selling them for absurd prices online – is upsetting to us." In turn, they have made the following adjustments: there will be no pre-sales, there will be a limit of 4 tickets per person, and there will be late delivery of tickets (two weeks prior to show). They're also playing mostly general admission venues, with "limited reserve seating when available."
Released in Sept. 2019, Hey, I'm Just Like You was inspired by a box of demos the sisters had written as teenagers, and found while working on their recent dual memoir High School. The album spawned three singles including "I'll Be Back Someday," "Don't Believe the Things They Tell You (They Lie)" and the title track.
$1 from every ticket sold on this tour will be donated to the Tegan and Sara Foundation, and more dates are soon to be announced.
