Watch Velocity Girl play their first show in 21 years (pics, video, setlist)

This weekend was DC venue The Black Cat’s 30th anniversary which on Saturday night was headlined by shoegazey indie rock greats and Sub Pop vets Velocity Girl who broke up in 1996 and hadn’t played live since 2002 (when they played the Black Cat’s 20th anniversary). They sounded pretty great for a band whose last gig was two decades ago, and it was hard to argue with the setlist which pulled mostly from their first two (and best) albums, Copacetic and ¡Simpatico!, plus classic early singles “Forgotten Favourite,” “Warm/Crawl,” and “I Don’t Care if You Go,” and closing with “Nothing” from their final album, Gilded Stars and Zealous Hearts.

You can check out photos by Ben Stas, along with Velocity Girl’s setlist and video from the show below. Stay tuned for photos from the club’s whole anniversary weekend which also had sets from Ted Leo + Pharmacists, Grey Matter (also a reunion), Ex Hex, Flasher and more.

You’ve got at least one more chance to see Velocity Girl as they play NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on September 30 with Elk City and Jeanines. Tickets are still available.
