Artists Honor Breonna Taylor On Her Birthday

Taylor, who was killed by Louisville police in March, would have celebrated her 27th birthday on Friday (June 5).

Dozens of celebs are encouraging their fans to demand justice and honor for Louisville native Breonna Taylor on what would have been her 27th birthday Friday (June 5).

Taylor's name has been chanted and evoked by the thousands of protesters who've taken to the streets over the past nine days in all 50 states to march in honor of George Floyd, the black Minneapolis man who was killed in police custody when a white officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

Audra McDonald posted a simple message: "We cannot forget #BreonnaTaylor she deserves justice. #SayHerName," while Ben Platt offered a link to a template for an email demanding justice for Taylor to Louisville Assistant Chief of Police Robert Schroeder and Jefferson County Commonwealth Attorney Tom Wine.

Selena Gomez and others shared a link to a change.org petition. "Breonna Taylor would’ve been 27 years old today. The same age I am. But she was shot 8 times. Please join me in signing this petition and let’s get #JusticeForBreonnaTaylor," Gomez wrote.

Demi Lovato also joined the cause, noting that Taylor's favorite colors were blue and purple, that Kevin Gates was one of her favorite artists and that she was an EMT on the frontlines of battling the COVID-19 pandemic. She urged Lovatics to send cards to Kentucky attorney general Daniel Cameron in Taylor's honor.

Singer Cyn also weighed in, posting a picture of Taylor along with a link to a Change.org petition demanding justice for Taylor, who was killed on March 13 when a squad of police used a battering ram to enter her apartment using a "no-knock" warrant and opened fire, fatally hitting Taylor at least eight times.

Solange had a more blunt message, "!!!!!!! When are the arrest and charges happening ?!?!"

Taylor's mother called for the firing of the officers who shot her daughter this week, pushing for an end to the monthslong investigation into her death.

WAVE 3 News reported that on Wednesday that the Metro Council Public Safety Committee unanimously passed a proposal this week to severely limit and monitor no-knock warrants in Louisville; the proposal goes to the full Metro Council for a vote on June 11.

#Repost @sirahsays with @get_repost ・・・ It’s Breonna Taylor’s birthday this Friday. Her favorite colors were blue and purple @iamkevingates was one of her favorite artists. She was an EMT on the frontlines during corona. Around midnight on March 13th police broke down her door and shot her 8 times, no evidence of a crime was uncovered. The sole crime was the murder of Breonna Taylor. Her crime being asleep in her own home. @battymamzelle thought of a great way to honor Breonna’s birthday, send cards to the attorney general. The most underserved demographic in America is black women, we cannot allow them to forget Breonna. #birthdayforbreonna #justiceforbreonnataylor. Happy birthday to this beautiful soul. You should be turning 27 today. In honor of your memory and our commitment to seeking justice in your name, the following is a message and initiative stated by Tatiana J. Burke @taranajaneen : “In honor of Breonna Taylor's birthday this coming Friday 5 June 2020, here are some concrete action items people can do to commemorate her life and fight to get her justice. Complete as many items on the list as you can and share the link to this campaign so that other people can complete it too.” The link will be in my story and on my Twitter. Black women are the center and backbone of this movement. Breonna was an award winning EMT. Beyond that, Breonna was a human being who deserved a full and fruitful life. We honor her today by doing our part in these actions. Donate to her family, sign the petitions asking for her murderer’s accountability, spread the message! Let us amplify this angel’s voice, Breonna we will continue to fight for your justice. Happy birthday mama✨ Story for link to actions!

Breonna Taylor would have been 27 today She was an EMT, killed in the middle of the night at her home. Everything I’ve read about this case is not just heartbreaking, but also unbelievably infuriating. The three men who killed her have not been charged, and though legislation banning the policy that allowed these three men to enter her house in the middle of the night without any warning -no knock warrants- passed through the Louisville Metro City Council’s Public Safety Committee this week, it still has ways to go before it is officially passed. I encourage you to educate yourself about Breonna, this case, and what you can do. Three things I think you can do right now: 1. Sign the petition that is in my story. 2. Call the numbers in the next slide or tweet them (info also in the next slide). Don’t be discouraged if you don’t reach people at first and if their mailboxes are full! Keep calling! 3. Donate to Breonna’s family or the Louisville Bail Fund, both links also in my story ❤️

I want to be more like you Breonna Taylor. A better sister, friend, and human. More kind. More positive. More intentional. Less judgmental. Less phased by shit that doesn’t matter. More dependable and moving with more care, light, and love. Your friends and cousin say that you were the “show up and never disappoint” friend...that you would throw all negativity out the door. I wish you were there with them all today celebrating. You should be with them all here celebrating in all your radiance. I don’t know WHERE tf I’d be with out my sisters and reading about your life, I know you were all their rock. Ms. Tamika Palmer, Ju’Niyah ,Katrina ,Alena ,Erinicka ,Clarissa, Preonia, Shatanis.... thank you all for sharing her with the world today.
