Filmmaker Joel Schumacher has died in New York City after a year-long battle with cancer, reports Variety. He was 80.
Born and raised in NYC, Joel Schumacher was originally a costume designer, having worked on such films as The Last of Sheila and Woody Allen's Sleeper and Interiors. He wrote the screenplay for 1976 cult film Car Wash and the big screen adaptation of The Wiz before making his feature directorial debut with 1981's The Incredible Shrinking Woman.
