Cedric says Mars Volta reunion likely, tweets Beck a question about Danny Masterson

At The Drive In said they were "taking a break" after the last show of their 2018 South American tour, but it looks like we may have the return of another of Cedric Bixler-Zavala's projects to look forward to. The Mars Volta, his band with Omar Rodríguez-López, took a hiatus after releasing Noctourniquet in 2012, then announced their break up in 2013. Over the weekend, Cedric responded (in a now-deleted tweet) with "it’s happening," to someone who tweeted at him, "I dream with you guys giving TMV a new chapter." To another person asking if the band would consider playing their debut album De-Loused In The Comatorium in full on tour, he said, "we are in the kitchen finding new ways to through curve balls."

In another tweet that has since been deleted, Cedric expanded on the possibility of a Mars Volta reunion even more:

What it’s NOT going to be is your ‘fav member lineup’ playing their ‘classic records’ in full etc. Maybe we’ll play old shit, who knows how we feel. Just remember our past campaigns never relied on playing requests or going fully backwards ...it’s new shit, new people, left turns , tangent inconsistencies, mazapan dreams and churro wishes. I will say this though, when ORL played me a grip of new shit I fucking cried. Like Claire Daines in Romeo & Juliet cried. Yeah it was fucking weird. It’s in its infancy right now. No deadlines, no ball tripping, no drama, just 2 grown ass men using essential oils and bold new perfumes shooting ideas and scooting their ass across the fucking lawn trying to get rid of these worms.

Stay tuned for more on that.

Meanwhile, as we have reported before, Cedric's wife Chrissie Carnell Bixler, actress and former Scientologist, accused actor and current Scientologist Danny Masterson of rape, and the Church of Scientology of covering up accusations from her and others, and harassing her and her family for going public about it. The case may not make many headlines lately, but Cedric keeps it alive on social media where he regularly brings it up, recently posting messages implying he thinks his family may be in danger for continuing to talk about it (flat tire included), and more recently calling out famous Scientologists one by one in a series of tweets and Instagram posts. Earlier this month he named Juliette Lewis, and since then posted an Instagram dedicated to her ex-husband and professional skater Steve Berra, and another dedicated to her brother-in-law Ethan Suplee.

It's always hard to know exactly what Beck's relationship to Scientology is, but there is no doubt he is associated with it and thought to be a member. An October 2017 Guardian article put it this way:

He’s a Scientologist, something I’ve been forbidden to ask about. (When Beck has spoken about his religion in the past, he’s described it as “something personal”, inherited from his father.)

Beck is also one of the people Cedric recently posted a question to on both Twitter and Instagram: "Do you stand with the victims of Danny Masterson @beck ?" Beck does not seem to have responded.
