20 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we'd call "indie," and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. In these concertless times, that includes daily livestreams and live concert videos we love. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here's a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

BURT BACHARACH AND DANIEL TASHIAN - "BELLS OF ST. AUGUSTINE"

Pop legend Burt Bacharach has teamed with Grammy-winning Kacey Musgraves collaborator Daniel Tashian for a new EP titled Blue Umbrella that'll be out July 31 on Big Yellow Dog Music. It's the first record from Bacharach, who turned 92 in May, in 15 years. “Daniels instincts are always right on target,” says Bacharach. “Musically, he’s got the chord before I’ve got the chord, when I can't find the chord. I appreciate it so much. He hears impeccably. He brings to the table a great lyric sense. He tells a great story. He also brings some valuable music stuff. It's a really collaborative thing.” Daniel says, meanwhile, “They say you shouldn't meet your heroes because they'll disappoint you. But I haven't found that about Burt.” First single "Bells of St. Augustine" sounds like a classic.

RYAN MURPHY (HOOTON TENNIS CLUB) - "HANG ON DANCER"

EJ MARAIS - "GLAMOUR PROFESSIONAL" (FT DELOREAN'S EKHI LOPETEGUI)

Barcelona artists EJ Marais will release debut album Cuts later this year and has just dropped the LP's laid back opening cut which was produced by Delorean's Ekhi Lopetegui. "It started out with a loop of chords that I had on my computer and then we got Jordi to play them live on a Hohner Pianet that was lent to us by Hidrogenesse. It sounded great! On the chorus Ekhi added a human voice choir that came from a Ensoniq SQ-1, there is really nothing like that sound, we have tried to imitate it many times for the live show and we never get the exact same tone. It says things about the passing of time and how things become old and decrepit, but also, about nature’s capacity to regenerate."

CRICKETS - "ELASTIC"

CRICKETS, the newish band from JD Samson (Le Tigre) Roddy Bottum (Faith No More) Michael O'Neil (Men), will release their self-titled debut album on July 17. They've just released a new single from it. “The simplicity and the bare bones with which we afforded ourselves in the process of writing and recording were key to the overall project,” Bottum says. “We went out of our way to limit ourselves to the bare necessities of tools and voices, and then stripped it down even further to achieve a barren and isolated effect. The music is addressing a need in the three of us to simplify and creatively explore the option of making music without the excess of presence of a masculine toxicity in expression and in the studio.” "Elastic" is a banger.
