The creative foundation of 'Astro' is deeply rooted in the personal history of Donato Dozzy, drawing thematic and structural inspiration from the Japanese children's cartoons and anime theme songs that defined his youth in Italy. In a significant artistic milestone, the title track features a direct sample from the 1970s theme song 'Astro Robot Contatto Ypsylon,' marking the first time the producer has incorporated vocal sampling into his own compositions.
Throughout the album, Dozzy demonstrates his mastery of sound design by utilizing hardware synthesizers, most notably the EMS Synthi AKS, to craft his signature hypnotic and immersive soundscapes. The project serves as a bridge between his enduring passion for vinyl culture and his fascination with vintage Japanese robotic figurines, resulting in a cohesive and deeply personal body of work.
