Getdown Services share “saddest song we’ve ever written” with downbeat new single ‘Cha Cha Slide’

Bristol-based disco-duo Getdown Services have unveiled their latest track, ‘Cha Cha Slide’, which the band describes as the “saddest song we’ve ever written.” The downbeat single serves as a significant departure from their usual high-energy output, offering a more introspective look at the human experience.

The release follows their previous single, ‘I Can’t Die Like That’, and acts as the latest taster from their highly anticipated second studio album, ‘Massive Champion’. The record is set to arrive on August 14 via Breakfast Records and is currently available for pre-order.

A Reflection on Social Disconnect

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, vocalist and guitarist Josh Law explained that the song captures a persistent, lifelong feeling of social inadequacy. “This song is about the feeling of everyone else somehow knowing what to do,” Law shared. “It’s about a feeling I’d get as a child that has never quite left me; that I just don’t really know what to do at social occasions.”

He added, “It’s about realising that trying to connect with and understand people is a lifetime of trial and error. It’s probably the saddest song we’ve ever written.” The accompanying music video leans into the band's signature absurdity, featuring a figure dressed as a giant Minion dancing atop a cliff.

Law’s bandmate, Ben Sadler, has previously described ‘Massive Champion’ as an “odyssey of anarchic joy, seditious wit and boundless energy,” promising a project that pushes their sound into more emotional and experimental territories than their 2023 debut, ‘Crisps’.

Touring and Future Plans

Following the album release, Getdown Services will embark on a headline tour across the UK and Ireland. The tour kicks off in Cardiff on November 19, with dates scheduled in major cities including Manchester, Leeds, and London. The run will conclude with two special homecoming performances at the Beacon in Bristol on January 16 and 17, 2027.

Before the headline tour, the duo is slated for a busy summer festival season, including appearances at Latitude, Green Man, and Truck Festival. These performances follow their recent appearance at the Harry Styles-curated Meltdown Festival, an experience Law described as “mental.”
