Colts Wide Receiver Keenan Allen Arrested on DWI Charges

The Indianapolis Colts have been forced to navigate a challenging legal situation just as the 2026-27 NFL season approaches. Wide receiver Keenan Allen, who signed a significant $8.32 million deal with the organization in mid-August, was recently arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. when officers observed a vehicle parked in a restricted zone. Upon interacting with the driver, identified as Allen, authorities noted signs of intoxication, leading to his arrest. He is currently facing misdemeanor charges for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in a manner that endangered others. A court date has been scheduled for September 16.

This arrest marks the first legal issue in Allen's 14-year professional career. While the potential for league-mandated discipline remains uncertain, the Colts organization has expressed support for the veteran receiver. General Manager Chris Ballard addressed the situation publicly, emphasizing Allen's long-standing reputation.

“He’ll play, yes,” GM Chris Ballard said. “Fourteen years in the league, no issues, OK? Decorated career, decorated teammate. You know our relationship with Philip Rivers — I know Philip holds him in extremely high regard and (coach) Shane (Steichen) was with him. After you meet his mom and dad, who are amazing people, we feel good about who he is. We unequivocally feel good about who Keenan Allen is.”

Despite the legal proceedings, the team expects Allen to be available for the season-opening game against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13. His presence on the field is considered vital for the Colts' aspirations in the AFC South, particularly as the team manages the recovery of fellow receiver Alec Pierce, who has been sidelined following ankle surgery.

As the Colts prepare for the upcoming campaign, they remain focused on their division title goals. Current market projections suggest a competitive race, with the Houston Texans entering the season as favorites, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts are currently positioned third in these projections, and maintaining a healthy and available roster will be critical to their success.
