Netflix's Top Movie Is a Star-Studded Psychological Thriller

A psychological thriller that had been quietly gaining momentum on Netflix was just named the No. 1 movie of the week. The streaming giant revealed its Top 10 list of movies in the United States for the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 6, with The Whisper Man emerging as the most-watched film in the country.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Adam Scott, Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, and Michael Keaton. Since its premiere on Aug. 28, the movie has dominated global viewership, racking up an impressive 33.4 million views. In the film, Scott portrays a grieving widower searching for his abducted son, Jake. To solve the case, he is forced to seek assistance from his estranged father—a retired detective who previously apprehended the very serial killer now linked to the current investigation.

Streaming data tracker FlixPatrol indicates that the film is maintaining its momentum, holding the top spot firmly as of early September. While it did not hold the No. 1 position for the entirety of the previous week, its late-August debut allowed it to capture the audience's attention rapidly.

A Dominant Performance on the Charts

The film's success was not entirely unexpected, as prediction markets had previously signaled high confidence in its performance. Other titles rounding out the Top 10 for the week included The Secret Woman, Turning Point: Generation 9/11, and the classic comedy 9 to 5.
