Iván Smoka Revisits Early Gatos Negros Recordings on 'Echoes of Black Cats'

Iván Smoka has officially released 'Echoes of Black Cats,' a compelling new collection of archival material produced alongside his Gatos Negros bandmate, Christian C. The project, which arrives via the Last Cat On Earth label—a venture Smoka co-runs with Thaddeus X—serves as a vital historical document of the duo’s early creative partnership.

The two tracks featured on the release were originally recorded between 2010 and 2012 but had remained unreleased until now. To ensure the music resonates with contemporary listeners, the recordings underwent a meticulous remixing and remastering process at Pobla Studio. This effort successfully aligned the production with modern sonic standards while carefully preserving the raw, atmospheric integrity of the original sessions.

Characterized by a dark and immersive aesthetic, the EP offers a fascinating glimpse into the foundational sound that would eventually define the Gatos Negros discography. For fans of the project, 'Echoes of Black Cats' provides essential insight into the collaborative identity of the founding members during their formative years.
