Digital festival season, anyone?
Bedroom pop singer Luna Shadows has debuted the music video for her new single "Palm Springs," premiering exclusively on Billboard Wednesday (April 8).
In the surrealist visual, the pop singer teams up with fellow L.A. artist In.Drip. for a trip to the desert city, only to find the hazy resort town devoid of humanity. "Drag me down to Palm Springs/ Where they keep their lawns green/ Daiquiris on Sunday/ Driving home by Monday morning/ Motel light with a letter out/ 105, no sign of clouds in/ Palm Springs," the pair intone as they lounge by the pool, roasting a package of hot dogs and holding cocktails.
"'Palm Springs' started as a fun tongue-in-cheek celebration of festival season, but like everything else right now, it's taken on an entirely new meaning," Shadows tells Billboard. "We originally set out to illustrate a surreal weekend in Palm Springs -- an eerie coincidence that we've now been able to embrace in the visuals: we're the only ones there, appropriately socially distanced with no one in sight for miles, almost as if we missed the memo entirely and still showed up like, 'Where is everyone?'"
The singer adds that she hopes the video serves as a bit of sunny distraction for fans currently cooped up at home, saying, "Despite difficult times, we understand that it is part of our job as artists to find a way to let a little light in -- and in our case, our goal evolved to be to somehow send a little piece of desert paradise to everyone stuck at home. I know how much I'll be missing those stages this spring as a performer but most of all as a music fan. Stay home everyone, and we hope you enjoy this digital excursion to festival season."
"Palm Springs" is set to be featured on Shadows' debut album due out later this year, and follows a string of singles including "Millenia," "Lowercase," "Practice" and "God.Drugs.U."
