CBS staple NCIS will feature a familiar face this fall when the long-running drama returns to the airwaves for its 24th season. Michael Weatherly, who famously portrayed Special Agent Tony DiNozzo across numerous seasons, is officially returning to the fold. Beyond his tenure on the flagship series, Weatherly has reprised the role of DiNozzo in various spinoffs, including NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
Weatherly, 58, first introduced audiences to the character of DiNozzo in the CBS series JAG in 2003. He made his debut on NCIS later that same year and remained a cornerstone of the main cast until 2016, appearing in over 300 episodes. His return to the set is a significant milestone for the series, which has now produced more than 500 episodes and remains the longest-running primetime drama on CBS.
In 2025, Weatherly reunited with co-star Cote de Pablo for the Paramount+ series NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The show saw both actors revisit their characters from the original series, though it concluded after a 10-episode run. Now, Weatherly is set to bring his experience back to the primary NCIS team, which continues to focus on the high-stakes investigations conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Outside of the NCIS universe, Weatherly’s extensive career includes a starring role in Fox’s Dark Angel, as well as appearances in The Cosby Show, Ally McBeal, and Jesse. Fans can look forward to seeing the actor back on their screens when NCIS premieres its new season on Tuesday, October 6.
