The Crown Fans Mourn Death of Producer Robert Fox

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of Robert Fox, a distinguished producer whose work left an indelible mark on both the stage and screen. Fox, who served as an executive producer for the acclaimed Netflix series The Crown, passed away at his London home on March 20. He was 73 years old.

His wife confirmed the news, noting that his death was caused by prostate cancer. Fox’s involvement with The Crown began long before the series reached global audiences; he was instrumental in the development of the 2013 play The Audience, written by series creator Peter Morgan. The play served as the foundational inspiration for the hit show, and Fox remained a vital creative force throughout the production process.

Stephen Daldry, who directed The Audience, paid tribute to Fox, describing him as the “cornerstone” of the production. His expertise in casting and editing proved essential to the show's success. Beyond his work on the royal drama, Fox boasted an impressive filmography that included notable titles such as Atonement, Notes on a Scandal, and The Hours.

His contributions to the theatre world were equally significant. In a poignant tribute to his legacy, West End theatres dimmed their lights on March 25 to honor his memory. Fox’s passing marks another loss for the community surrounding The Crown, which has seen the departure of several key contributors in recent years, including Stephen Greif, Haydn Gwynne, James Laurenson, David Killick, and Jane Lapotaire. The show also depicted the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, both of whom passed away in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
