Hailey Bieber was quick to come to Justin Bieber's defense after he revealed his Lyme disease diagnosis on Wednesday (Jan. 8), shutting down those who downplayed the severity of the infection. But she also had some kind words for Avril Lavigne, who has been an advocate for Lyme disease since revealing her own diagnosis in April 2015.
Following a tweet thanking Gigi, Bella and Yolanda Hadid for helping her better understand Lyme disease, Hailey shouted out Lavigne in another message: "And sending so much love to @AvrilLavigne thank you for all you do to educate people about Lyme. You’re amazing," she wrote, along with a double heart emoji.
It didn't take long for Lavigne to send love right back. "Thank you @HaileyBieber for your kind words. So sorry to hear about @justinbieber having to go through this awful disease. The fact that it’s hard to diagnose and is so debilitating was something I suffered through also," she replied.
In a second tweet, Lavigne reminded the Biebers and fans about The Avril Lavigne Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting those who have Lyme. "Which is why I’ve put so much of my time, energy and effort into educating and helping others though @avrilfoundation to keep their #HeadAboveWater. As you know, Lyme is a global pandemic but not a global priority..let’s change that together!!! #LymeDisease #FightLyme."
Justin assured fans in his announcement that though it's been a rough couple of years, he's been overcoming the effects of Lyme and getting treatment. "I will be back and better than ever NO CAP," he wrote on Instagram, adding that his journey with Lyme disease will be explained further in his forthcoming YouTube docuseries, Justin Bieber: Seasons.
