Electronic music icons Boards of Canada have officially confirmed their return to the studio, announcing their first full-length album in over a decade. Titled ‘Inferno,’ the highly anticipated project is scheduled for release on May 29th, 2026, through their longtime label, Warp Records. The announcement puts an end to weeks of intense speculation within the electronic music community regarding the Scottish duo’s next move.
This upcoming release marks the pair's first major project since the critically acclaimed 2013 album ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest.’ The new LP will feature 18 tracks and will be available in a variety of formats, including a special edition translucent red double vinyl, standard black vinyl, CD, and digital versions. Collectors will also be pleased to note that physical copies will include a 16-page booklet.
The path to this announcement was paved with a series of cryptic teasers, including mysterious posters and VHS tapes distributed via Bleep. Building on this momentum, the duo recently shared a three-minute track titled ‘Tape 05’ on YouTube, which fans have identified as the fifth track on the album, titled ‘Father and Son.’
Since their emergence in the 1990s, Boards of Canada have remained a cornerstone of the downtempo and IDM genres. Their signature sound, defined by haunting analog textures and deep, nostalgic themes, has cemented their status as definitive figures in electronic music. With ‘Inferno,’ the duo looks to continue their legacy of pushing sonic boundaries.
