The Strokes have dropped the latest preview of their upcoming studio album, releasing the tender, slow-burning single ‘Falling Out Of Love’. This release marks another significant step toward the band's highly anticipated return to the spotlight.
A New Chapter for The Strokes
The New York indie icons began teasing new music earlier this year, eventually confirming the title of their forthcoming record, Reality Awaits. Scheduled for release on June 26, the album serves as the long-awaited follow-up to their 2020 Grammy-winning effort, The New Abnormal. The band previously introduced the project with the chic lead single ‘Going Shopping’ last month.
Today, Julian Casablancas and his bandmates have shared ‘Falling Out Of Love’, a track that delves into themes of heartbreak and the solace found in solitude. The song adopts a more stripped-back, romantic aesthetic compared to its predecessor, utilizing gentle, swirling guitar riffs and intimate vocal performances.
“Took you out to my hometown/ Where I learned to be alone/ Riding up the mountainside/ Where all the world's here,” Casablancas sings.
For much of the track, Casablancas employs a vocoder, a stylistic choice that recalls his iconic work on the 2013 Daft Punk collaboration ‘Instant Crush’ and later Strokes tracks like ‘At the Door’.
Recording 'Reality Awaits'
‘Falling Out Of Love’ is the fourth track on the nine-song tracklist for Reality Awaits. The album was recorded in Costa Rica under the guidance of producer Rick Rubin before the band finalized the project across several international locations. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has previously described the sessions as one of his favorite recording experiences, noting that the band feels they have yet to write their best songs.
Following their recent performance at Coachella 2026, the band is preparing for a busy touring schedule. They have announced a massive tour spanning the UK, North America, Europe, and Japan, marking their first full run of headline dates in the UK and Ireland in over two decades.
