Taylor Swift Returns to Country Roots for Toy Story 5 Soundtrack

Taylor Swift's first new song since her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl is "I Knew It, I Knew You," an original composition for Toy Story 5. The track marks a significant return to the country music genre that defined the early stages of her illustrious career.

Swift shared her creative process on social media, posting an Instagram video of her younger self dressed in an outfit reminiscent of the Toy Story aesthetic. "Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," she wrote. "Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond."

The artist expressed gratitude toward her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, as well as Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton and composer Randy Newman, for the "gorgeous sonic tapestry" they have cultivated over the franchise's history. "We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard throughout our childhoods," she added.

Toy Story 5, which is set to premiere on June 19, introduces a "Toys vs. Tech" narrative. The plot centers on the arrival of a tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, which shifts Bonnie's attention away from her classic collection of toys.

Director Andrew Stanton praised Swift's contribution, noting that her connection to the character of Jessie was immediate. "The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet," Stanton said.

While this is a notable return to country, it is far from Swift's first cinematic contribution. Her previous film work includes "Carolina" for Where the Crawdads Sing, "Crazier" and "You Can Always Find Your Way Back Home" for Hannah Montana: The Movie, "Today Was a Fairytale" for Valentine's Day, and the Hunger Games tracks "Eyes Open" and "Safe and Sound."

Market analysts and fans alike are already speculating on the song's chart performance. With excitement surrounding both her return to country and her personal life, many anticipate the track will reach the top of the charts, a sentiment echoed by traders on prediction platforms who currently assign a 98% probability of a No. 1 hit for the month of June.
