Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has provided an update about his health after a stunning fall into the dugout on Wednesday night. The incident occurred during the eighth inning of the Dodgers' 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. As Freeman tracked a foul ball hit by Isaac Collins, he moved toward the dugout, lost his footing, and tumbled headfirst into the area.
Reflecting on the moment, Freeman explained, "I was going to lean against the rail to catch the ball, and obviously, there was no rail." While the fall was visually jarring, the star first baseman managed to avoid a head injury, which he noted was the most critical aspect of the accident. Despite the relief of avoiding a concussion, Freeman is currently dealing with significant physical discomfort. "I am sore. Kneecaps are sore. Shoulder is sore. Hand sore. Wrist sore. I mean, I fell. (But) I'm in good spirits," he added.
Although Freeman initially attempted to return to the field, he was eventually replaced by Tommy Edman as a pinch-hitter, with Kiké Hernández taking over defensive duties at first base. The team is currently monitoring him on a day-to-day basis as he manages total body soreness. The Dodgers, who currently hold a commanding eight-game lead in the National League West, will look to maintain their momentum as they continue their push toward the postseason.
